Stories I Only Tell my Friends by Rob Lowe

I just started reading this autobiography about Rob Lowe. It is quite an amazing story. The people he meets and future stars he encounters at such a young age....a real page turner for me. I began reading this yesterday and am already 150 pages in! I just got to the part where he is auditioning for the Outsiders. I loved that book and movie as a kid and have taught it many times when I taught junior high. I am so excited to keep going I had to blog about it. Is anyone else reading this book? What do you think so far?

When God Was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman

The debut novel by Sarah Winman looked appealing to me because of the title. It is a book about a brother and sister and their kind of wierd, unconventional upbringing in 1970's-1980's England. Elly and Joe are very close and expereince many things that kids should not have to go through at such a young age, or some may argue, ever. I really enjoyed the beginning of the book and the end of the book. The middle was lagging a bit and at one point I thought I may not finish, but now am glad I kept with it. This was a heavy, easy read. It was heavy becuse it deals with issues like sexual abuse, murder, suicide, cancer, domestic abuse and much more. It is also funny and at times made me laugh out loud. It is a great book about love in many forms and I love where the title came from in the book.

Ape House by Sara Gruen

I was very excited to see another book by Sara Gruen. Her novel, Water for Elephants, was one of my favorites so as soon as I saw Ape House I knew I had to read it. It is a book about a group of bonobos apes and their rather interesting and sometimes shocking sexual lifestyle. The apes are kidnapped and exploited for entertainment purposes. The book is about a reporter nad scientist who are trying to save them. I enjoyed the easy read and felt that the book flowed nicely from chapter to chapter. For me it was not nearly as good as Water for Elephants....but still worth reading. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Back in business!

After a long hiatus from my blog...I am hoping to add some new posts this week. I have been reading up a storm. My husband and I are expecting a baby in August and I recently just finished my post bac. in education. I've been busy! Stay tuned to hear about some great...and not so great reads.
